What a weekend it was at this year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on the famous Mount Panorama, as the Dunlop Series took part in their first ever enduro style race. The new 250km format included a live pit stop with tyre changes and refuel assisted by the main game teams. Watch the live pit stop here.
After two successful practice sessions over the Thursday and Friday, our driver Brett Hobson was relaxed and ready for qualifying as he joked over the two-way with the team and ran a top time of 2:10.0217. This positioned him 14th for the start of Saturday’s race and with 41 laps and a 27 strong pack Brett was ready to face the mountain.
Saturday’s start had nerves running wild as the race kicked off at 1pm. A slight stall on the start line saw us drop back a few places to 16th just as the safety car was deployed on Lap 3. This would be the first of three times the safety would make it’s way onto the track as The Moutain took out it’s fair share of victims for the 2014 race.
A quick tyre change and refuel and we were back as Brett quickly moved through the group from 17th to 11th in a number of minutes, whilst still maintaining lap times in the 2:10. With only 12 laps to go the safety car was out again as a few kangaroos became a little too curious and found their way onto the track. Fortunately no Skippy’s were harmed and the race continued.
The final few laps and Brett managed to put on a good fight for 10th position as he kept right on the tail of the car in front, looking for his chance to break through as they made their way down the bends of the mountain. Unfortunately he lost him on the straight but still managed to finish the race in an impressive 11th position, the best so far of this season, so well done Brett!!
A big thank you as always to everyone who helped with the day and the guests who attended both our race weekend and the Pit Stop Challenge during the week at Lithgow Public School with Early Intervention Lithgow.
Now the count down is on with only 1 race to go in the season. Sydney 500 here we come!
