Simplex supporters and distributors were out in full force last weekend to cheer on the Pacific Hoists Simplex team at this years Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, as the car made it safely across the finish line in 15th position on Saturday.
The 41 lap mini endurance race was filled with the usual excitement reserved for the famous Bathurst track, as the 23 strong pack battled it out in the 2nd last race of the Dunlop Series.
The Moutain was marred with red flags and accidents, taking it’s fare share of casualties during practice and qualifying sessions on the the Thursday & Friday. However the Simplex car remained incident free as driver Phil Woodbury maintained a safe back of the pack position, with lap times ranging from 2:16 – 2:13.4622. His first time on the Bathurst track in a V8 Supercar, Phil was saving his best for the main race.
Saturday’s main endurance race kicked off at 2pm with dark skies and the threat of afternoon rain. The 41 lap, 90 min race requiring 1 compulsory pit stop, saw 2 safety cars hit the track before the 20 lap mark and the Simplex car sitting in 18th. By the 3rd flag and only a few laps left the team were up to 15th and holding strong.
Managing to keep his strong pace, Phil mainted his hold on 15th position in the Simplex car until the chequered flag, finishing the race with a time of 1 hour 37:43.4067. An impressive finish for the team and Phil.
