The Castrol EDGE Townsville 400 in Queensland last weekend was the 4th race in the Dunlop Series season and it proved to be yet another tough one for our driver Brett Hobson and the RSport Race Engineering team.
After finally making the decision to sell the damaged commodore from Clipsal, the team made a one-off appearance in an ex-Kelly commodore at this weekends race, before finalising whether to buy a new car for the remainder of the season.
Hoping to get some quality time on the track, Friday’s practice sessions were almost faultless other than a few minor scratches when Brett got a little too friendly with turn 8 in the first session.
This smooth run continued Saturday after qualifying saw the team positioned 18th; they did sacrifice a wing mirror to get there. After a little convincing the team managed to talk our driver Brett back into the car for Race 1 where he bumped up 2 positions to 16th, finishing the 21 lap race in under 28 mins.
With only a few minor adjustments to loosen up the rear, the team were ready to hit the track again for Sunday’s early morning qualifying session. Bad luck hit us only 3 laps in as our weekend abruptly ended when major issues with the car’s engine saw the front of the car as well as our Race 2 chances go up in smoke. Watch the video here at the 40sec mark.
Whilst the weekend didn’t end on a high, the attitude of the team stayed positive as they look forward to hopefully a new car to finish the season and the final 3 races in Ipswich, Bathurst and Sydney.
Until next weekend!
